Obituary

Alice Roberta (Hull) Hutt of Sidney, IA (formerly of Blanchard, IA), passed peacefully at George C. Grape Community Hospital on Sunday, October 23, 2016. Born of Frank Hull and Ruth Bain Hull, Roberta enjoyed 92 years of life with her numerous friends and family. Born December 15, 1923, in Elmo, MO, Roberta was raised on the family farm alongside her younger sisters Cathryn McIntyre (Standberry, MO) and Frances Campbell (dec. 2008).

Roberta was a graduate of Elmo High School and the final living member of her class. Following graduation, Roberta took employment at Sears & Roebuck in Kansas City, MO. Having returned to Elmo, Roberta worked at Clarinda Municipal Hospital and eventually the bank in Elmo. Roberta thrived in her career with the U.S. Postal Service starting as a part-time clerk and working up to Post Master. A job from which she retired after over 30 years of service.

While employed at the bank, Roberta was swept off her feet by a handsome customer, Olin Theodore Hutt (dec. 1962). They were wed September 5, 1948 at the Hull farm. Roberta worked alongside her husband at their business, the Ideal Cafe, in Blanchard until the birth of their first child, Ruth Alison (dec. 1995). A few years later, Robert Olin was born and completed their family.

Living in Blanchard, Roberta enjoyed sharing her hobbies of gardening and bird-watching with her ornery grandchildren Paul, Andrea, and Ted. Roberta was a loving and devoted grandmother, never missing a concert, play, or performance of the kids'. Roberta held a special place in her heart for her grandson Bradley (dec. 1977).

Being an active member of the Blanchard United Methodist Church, an avid supporter of the former Blanchard Fire Department, and other various community activities, Roberta was connected and a vital part of the community.

Roberta's latter years were spent in her son Robert's home in Sidney, IA where she found joy in getting to watch her 9 great-grandchildren grow: Kayleigh, Braidy, Emily, and Isaac Hutt (Paul & Jamie of Sidney, IA), Miles and Pierce Brown (Andrea and Chad of Olathe, KS), and Chevy, Leahna, and Hailand Hutt (Ted and Tonya of Clarinda, IA). Roberta thoroughly enjoyed teaching them how to laugh and carry on facetiously.

Roberta's living family members take comfort in the reunion of her and her loved ones whom she dearly missed.
