Alice was born on June 2, 1921, in rural Underwood, Iowa, to Charles and Mary Agnes(Daley) Caster. She graduated from Underwood High School and Ottumwa Heights College, and took classes at Creighton University and UNO. She taught elementary school in Corning, Underwood and Crescent prior to her marriage. She met Patrick Martin at a dance in St. Patrick Hall in Neola, and they were married on June 25, 1952. She moved to Imogene with Patrick where they farmed and raised a family. She and Patrick were married 50 years before his death on January 5, 2003. She was active in the St. Patrick Altar Society in Imogene, taught religious education and was a 4-H leader. She liked to sew.

Survivors include her seven children, Leo and wife Sue Martin of Council Bluffs, Paul Martin of Clive, Mary and husband John Fischer of Neola, Barbara and husband Jerry Lundgren of Omaha, Katie and husband Pat Daly of Clive, Carl and wife Carol Martin of Council Bluffs, and Mark Martin of Des Moines, one brother, Robert Caster of Lincoln, and ten grandchildren--Tony Fischer and fiance Beth Newell, Anne and husband Matt Brummett, Emily Fischer, Daniel Fischer, Michael Lundgren, John Lundgren, Kathryn Lundgren, Maureen Martin, Patrick Martin and Molly Martin.

Also surviving are her sister-in-law Jeanette Caster, brothers-in-law Tom and wife Mary Martin and Gerald Martin, and sister-in-law Jeanne Martin. She was preceded in death by her siblings and spouses: Mary Ann and Jim Finn, Helen and Russ Madsen, Charles Caster, John Caster, Sarah Caster, and Marci Caster and her husband's brothers and spouses James Martin, Joe Martin, Michael and Louise Martin, Edward and Esther Martin and Joyce Martin.

Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Imogene. Celebrants were Father Dan Kirby and Father Kenneth Gross. Altar servers were Maureen Martin, Kathryn Lundgren and Molly Martin. Lector was Kathy Regan. Eucharistic ministers were John Martin, Jr. and Sandy Bugg. The petitions/offertory reading was by John Martin. Attending the memory register were Darlene Laughlin and Jackie Hughes. Ushers were Peggy Martin and Laura McGargill. Gift bearers were all of Alice's grandchildren. The organist and soloist was Bonnie Kramer. Casket bearers were Tony Fischer, Michael Lundgren, Daniel Fischer, John Lundgren, Patrick Martin, Matt Brummett, Ray Madsen and John Martin. Interment was in the Mount Calvary Cemetery in Imogene. Memorials may be offered to St. Patrick Church, St. Albert School, Mt. Michael Benedictine School, Duchesne Academy or donor's choice. The Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah was in charge of the arrangements.
