Alena Pearl (Ross) Fichter was born September 29, 1925 to Paul and Ruth (Cooksey) Ross in Clearfield, Iowa and entered into rest on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Elm Heights Care Center in Shenandoah, Iowa at the age of 91.

The family moved from Clearfield, Iowa to Clearmont, Missouri where Alena started school and graduated from Clearmont High School with the class of 1943.

Always wanting to be a nurse, in 1944 she had the chance to join the United States Cadet Nurse Corps. From there she joined the Jennie Edmundson School of Nursing. She enjoyed three wonderful years of education and graduated in 1947. She then went to Shenandoah, Iowa to be an Registered Nurse at the Hand Hospital. While there she fell in love with a a wonderful man William (Bill) Fichter and they we married on October 8, 1950. To this union two children, JoEllen and Mark were born.

Bill and Alena enjoyed golfing, and being with family and friends and traveling.

Alena loved being a nurse, loved being with family and friends, especially loved her life with Bill.

Alena was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 50 years and the Randolph United Methodist Church for 67 years.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her parents and a brother Clifford Ross.

Those left to honor her memory are her children; JoEllen (Lauren) Heermann of Haxtun, Colorado and Mark (Benita) Fichter of Randolph, Iowa, seven grandchildren; Jenna (Christian) Keller of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, Will Heermann of Ridgecrest, California, John (Kim) Heerman of Haxtun, Colorado, Sterling (Christina) Fichter of Randolph, Iowa, Jeremiah Fichter, MaryAmelia Fichter both of Anaheim, California, and Isaac Fichter of Randolph, Iowa, six great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Celebration of life funeral service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, June 30, 2017 at the Randolph United Methodist Church in Randolph, Iowa.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, June 29, 2017 at the Hackett-Livingston Funeral Home in Shenandoah, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to the Randolph United Methodist Church or the Randolph Rescue Squad.

Burial will be held in the Randolph Cemetery.
